Parmanism

Parmanism is defined by The New Dictionary as The use of showmanship, media, and popular movement to gain support behind an idea by obfuscating opposing voices of reason.</blockquote

The term comes from John Henry Parman, who successfully sold the purported time machine "New Tomorrow," to masses of the wealthy, leading to their demise when the machines inevitably failed to achieve their stated function, leading to The Hard Rain and the Modern Eruption.
