Legend of Sulnok
The Legend of Sulnok and the Mute One is an ancient myth that describes the origins of Phemra through the story of the first Mage King Sulnok The First. The story has existed in many forms for over a thousand years, both in the oral tradition and the Dictated Histories of the Empyrium. There are several points of difference between the various tellings of the tale (most notably between the popular oral versions and that of promulgated by the Empyrium). Almost all versions tell the tale of how Sulnok, king of the ancient city of Tau'Shauleen struck a bargain with the Old Spirit the Mute One, turning his city into an unrivaled metropolis which dominated the surrounding city-states. In time, Sulnok sought to learn the secrets behind the wonders and power provided him by the Mute One (an inquiry the Mute One had explicitly forbidden as condition of his bargain). When the Mute One learned that Sulnok had delved into his secrets, he destroyed the City of Shaul'Taleen. Sulnok then confronted the Mute One , eventually defeating him by using the Spirit's own power to name it, the beginning of the Phemral Toungue.
In different versions, Sulnok alternately survives and wanders the earth or is destroyed along with the Mute One. The Empyrial version of the story claims Sulnok went on to found the Empyrial capital of [INSERT NAME]. All versions, however, credit Sulnok with discovering or developing the Phemral Tougue from his studies of the Mute One's power.
