Franz Snell
Austrian metaphysicist famed for his "creation" (if it can be called that) of the Spirit Displacement Device, upon which his mysterious disappearance has been blamed.
Birth and Early Years
Snell derives from a lineage of experimental philosophers, most notably his great-grandfather, Wilhelm Liebenregen. Snell's father forbade Franz to speak until the age of 8, famously explaining that "Representational nonsense like speech just muddles the young mind. The formative years are lost without relentless introspection."

"The New Human"
The pioneering of the Spirit Displacement Device led to Snell's further assertion that projection of this kind had occurred throughout human history, but without intent or purpose. In fact, Snell claimed that many, if not all, religious experiences stemmed from some kind of accidental projection.
However, now that projection could happen with intent, Snell boasted that a "New Human" was on the verge of being created. That is to say, a human race in full possession of its mental powers.
Disappearance
It was while attempting to create and refine this new human that Snell's vaunted invention failed him. During his showpiece "All The Intellects" convention, at which he first demonstrated his ability to project consciousness beyond the limits of the solar system - frightening many in the audience with its implications - he urged all those present to join him in focused meditation. Unbeknownst to those in attendance - which number included many of the world's leading thinkers in all manner of subjects - he activated the device. At first nothing of note happened, but, according to the few eyewitnesses who were not meditating (mostly waitstaff), at precisely thirty minutes into the meditation session, all those in meditation gasped "BODIES! NO!" and suddenly disappeared, including Snell himself. It was left to busboy Dan Turler to deactivate the device.
