Bonifacio Dragao

Commodore Bonaficio Eduardo Caldeira Dragao commanded a fleet of nearly seven ships under the Portuguese flag in the latter years of the 17th century. He is best known for his discovery of Ilha do Muco, often called the "world's most worthless island," in 1686. In 1701, following years of declining health and illness, Commodore Dragao succumbed to having been repeatedly stabbed in the face with a whale knife. The beauty and explosive incontinence of his daughter, Esmeralda Dragao, were famously chronicled by the scurrilous nautical hell-raiser and rum nicker Pontius Tacklethorpe.
