Tesla Guitar

The Tesla guitar or "Teslatar" is a musical instrument inspired by the research of Nikola Tesla. Its characteristic crackling scream is a mainstay of progressive wave metal music.

The Tesla guitar is deceptively simple, resembling an oversized screw. It contains no moving parts and requires a continuous power source of at least 100,000 watts to operate. A Tesla guitarist must wear a full-body rubbersuit while playing or risk fatal electric shock. The instrument is a crowd favorite in live concerts due to its wildly snaking arcs of lightning and flying sparks, though some criticize its safety. Since its invention in 1987, over seventy concert venues have burned down as a direct result of the instrument, dozens of fans have been blinded from looking straight at it, and at least five were seriously injured by its powerful electrostatic discharge.
