Standard Dating

Standard Dating - formerly denoted as "Year of His Revelation" or "YHR"- is a calendar system of dating starting at year SD 1, in which year it is reputed by the Copati religion that the Divine Avatar first revealed himself to his followers. For reasons of multi-cultural acceptance, the system of "Standard Dating" was adopted in the latter part of the previous century and as a practical matter is now used by almost every major civilization on the planet.

Origins

Terminology

Dates rendered in Standard Dating have one of two prefixes, denoting years before and after the supposed "Year of His Revelation".

Original Terminology

Originally, the dating system was used by peoples following the Copati religion, with the first year being the supposed Year of His Revelation. Dates were rendered as such:

Originally, date prior to YHR 1 were handled piecemeal as a series of Eras, each with its own name. For example, the Era immediately preceeding the Year of His Revelation was the Era of Turbulence, abbreviated ET. This Era lasted for 147 years from ET 1 to ET 146. In YHR 1578, however, all Eras prior to YHR 1 were re-dated under the heading BHR (Before his Revelation) which measured dates in backwards from YHR1:

Modern Terminology

In modern times, the YHR/BHR terminology has been replaced with a more generalized (and less culturally/religiously charged) terminology, using ASD (Ante Standard Dating) and SD (Standard Dating) to refer to the same time periods, eg:
