Ereban Legion
A unit of the Imperial Ereban Army, roughly equivalent to a division in more modern militaries. When I Legion was first declared operational in 975 FA, it consisted of 1,500 infantry and 500 cavalry. By 979, the infantry strength of a standard legion was increased to 2,000. In 991, Ereban battalions were increased from 500 to 600 soldiers, and a standard legion was increased to a total of 6,900 soldiers.
Makeup of a Standard Legion
Following the 991 FA restructuring of the legions, a full-strength Legion consisted of the following:
- Six battalions (3,600 soldiers) of standard legionaries
- Two battalions (1,200 soldiers) of ranged legionaries
- Two battalions (1,200 soldiers) of cavalry
- One battalion (600 soldiers) of support units
- Two companies (200 soldiers) of casters
- One company (100 soldiers) of command staff
While large battles could involve multiple legions (the largest battle ever fought by the Empire saw a total of thirteen legions, totaling nearly 80,000 troops, deployed in one formation), in general the Imperial army was deployed in wings, or half legions, which themselves were often divided into battalion-strength units.
