Ereba

Regions

Capital District

The Capital District includes the capital city of Fiora, Fiora Harbor, and the lands and islands directly facing onto the Harbor. By custom, the Capital District is neutral territory among the merchant houses of Ereba, who must contribute to its defense and upkeep but may not station troops within its boundaries.

The Golden River

The Golden River and its tributaries are at the center of Ereban settlement and culture. While most of Ereba's population lives along the river, Erebans tend to divide themselves into three regional subcultures: delta, lower river, and upper river.

Upper River

Near its headwaters in the Sillisti Mountains, the Golden River is generally narrow and fast-moving. During the centuries before Ereba's industrialization, the upper river region was dotted with water mills; later these were replaced by hydroelectric dams.

Lower River

The breadbasket of Ereba, the lower Golden River region is fed by the wide, slow-moving river and a complex irrigation network. Though far more agrarian than the upper river region, the constant presence of trading ships moving up and down the river meant that the people of the region were in significantly closer contact to the large cities of the coast.

Golden River Delta

The delta of the Golden River is the most densely-populated area in Ereba after the Capital District, which is itself contained within the Delta. Magical terraforming, backed by mundane engineering, heavily altered the landscape of the Delta throughout the 10th century FA, creating stone "islands" in the delta suitable for concentrated urban development and channeling the Golden River through deeper, more fixed channels. This led to an explosion in the population of the Delta throughout the Imperial age of Ereba.

Sillisti Mountains

The Sillisti Mountain range formed the southern boundary of pre-imperial Ereba, dividing it from the Kingdom of Aranth. Three passes allowed travel through the range, and control of the passes was a constant spur to cooperation or conflict between the Erebans and Aranthians. One of the first moves of the Ereban Empire was to lay claim to the entire range and its mineral wealth, sparking a brushfire war with the Aranthians.

Blackacre Forest

The northern border of pre-imperial Ereba, the Blackacre Forest is the domain of the Blackacre Elves, a generally nonisolationist society. Blackacre Forest holds several entrances to the Underdark, a constant attraction for adventuring bands from across the continent.

Eastreach

The Eastreach district... hmm.

The Hura

The Hura district includes the city of Hur, a strip of habitable land along the southern Sillisti Mountains and the Iron Cape, and the rocky islands, extensions of the Sillisti range, known as the Leviathan's Claws. A difficult-to-navigate overland route exists connecting Hur to Ereba proper, but for the most part the city had to be supplied and approached by sea. Despite frequent attacks by monsters out of the Sillisti, the Erebans saw Hur's position as strategically critical to maintaining control of the northern Middle Sea.
