Historical Origins and Development
Duham appears to have been based on the ancient tribal religion of the Rab'ka, emphasizing the worship of Owas, a creator and protector deity, and the Ib'o, animistic entities often identified with places or forces of nature, who were incorporeal but not considered gods.
The expansion of the Righteous Abode, a political and later military movement based on the teachings of the Duham prophet Azgeba, led to the conversion of much of the population the continent of Ias to Duham, as well some in Aremi and Munao.
Later Duham, in the Middle Years, especially under the leadership of Santa Daol, Elder of the Righteous Abode, placed considerable emphasis on the concept of awasol, "purity," and the avoidance of geb'a - the impure, perverse or chaotic - a concept associated in conservative Duham thinking with technology.
Reaction to the policies of Santa Daol eventually lead to the splitting the Duham religious community and the collapse of the Rab'ka state (the Snadaq). Currently, most Duhamic communities in western Ias practice a form of Daoli (or Dóli) Duham, while adherents in the east (the "Eastites") practice a more liberal version of Duham.
