Alban Sea

The Alban Sea is a large inland sea located on the continent of Munao. It has a surface area of 1,255,000 square kilometers, and a volume of 430,000 cubic kilometers. It is an endoheric basin (it has no outflows), and is bound to the south and south east by the province of Djakonza province, to the east and to the north by the nation of Liatia, and to the west and southwest by the Reb'Kayum mountain range. It has a maximum depth of 2,000 liters.

Although nicknamed the "Great Sea" due to its salinity and seemingly boundless shoreline, it name is thought to be derived from the ancient Reb'Ka word aL'Baa, which meant "the profound", or "the source".

Geology and Hydrography

The Alban Sea is the largest inland sea on the planet of Drowlto VI. It is an ancient body of water, estimated to be over one hundred million years old, the result of an ancient rift valley created by the separation of the East and West Munao plates. The valley and the sea is still widening between its east and west shores at a rate of about one centimeter a year. The area is also seismically active, and the region around the sea is dotted with hot springs, especially on the western shore.

The sea's water are well mixed and well oxygenated throughout the water column, allowing it to support a wide variety of fauna throughout its entire biosphere, from the sea floor up to the surface.

Fauna

The sea supports an amazingly diverse ecosystem. Due the long isolation from other sources of water, the fauna of the sea have evolved into several unique species that are found nowhere else on the planet. Dromas, Suitans, al'Jibiris, and Nwahals are the main endemic fish species in the sea. Their vast numbers have supported several cultures that relied on fishing for a major food source.

The shores of the sea also support a wide variety of land animals such as Veris and Mushurr. The southwestern shore is well known as the habitat of the Yungga, prized for its luxurious pelt.
